3) Committee Reports
FUNDRAISING
Annual Dinner: Pat O’Brien mentioned that Aug 25 (day after meeting) was the last day to back out of the hall reservation without any cost. Posters have already been distributed.
For the event to be successful:
· 140-150 tickets must be sold (break-even point is 100 tickets)
· 50-60 items are needed for the auctions, including a number of high-value ones
· Target of $6,000-$7,000 in revenue
As of meeting date:
· 4 tables are sold
· 5-6 other tables have been claimed by members in Lanark and Smiths Falls
Outstanding:
· We need a process to value in-kind contributions
· We need to provide event security (5 members signed a form committing to ensuring good order on the night)
Trillium Foundation: Peter Homulos updated members on the Capital Grant Program.
· Submission deadline is Oct. 25, response is expected by March 2nd
· We can submit applications in 2 catchment areas (Ottawa & Lanark), preferably in the ‘Connected People’ stream as it addresses isolation
· Grant will fund up to 100% of boat purchase, maximum awarded is $150,000
· We need quotes: Peter is in the process of contacting dealers and Doug Ward will contact Hurst Marina
FINANCE
Bob Howlett reported that:
· We have a total of $10,601.49 in the bank, in addition to the $1,000 transferred into the newly created Dinner Auction Account
· The Rideau Ferry Regatta on Aug 19 only netted $86
BOOKINGS
Pat O’Brien reported that this year was the busiest ever, with 10% more bookings than in 2016.
· We served 1,461 clients
· There were 55 trips from Dow’s Lake and 82 trips from RCMP Camp
· Very few people took advantage of the single day option, so efforts must be made to raise awareness
· The season will not be extended beyond Sept 1st as it will get too cold and we have no requests for bookings
· Members thanked Pat for his work managing all the bookings
MEMBERSHIP
Doug Rubbra reported (via Peter Homulos) that Jessy Proulx applied to be a member. He was provisionally accepted.
· Members were asked to make sure they are in compliance (boating card & police check) and go on the website to update their profile accordingly
· There is general agreement that more effort should be made to engage new members. This could be done through a first-aid training course, a fall BBQ, or a Christmas party
INVENTORY
Serge Brissette was absent. Nothing to report.
MAINTENANCE
The two boats that were in need of repairs are now fixed.
Doug Ward mentioned that fuel consumption on the RCMP boat is unusually high.
4) New Business
· Peter Homulos said that on Sept 13 he would take the Executive Team of the Ottawa-Carleton Sport-fishing and Conservation Association on a boat trip to raise awareness of FISF’s mandate and activities
· A Governance Group was created to chart the way forward for FISF. Members are Doug Rubbra, Doug Ward, Bob Benoit, Peter Homulos
· Doug Rubbra is drafting job descriptions with deliverables to clearly outline the responsibilities of future Board officers
5) Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm. The next meeting date is TBD.
